A new season! NHL 2009-2010

It is just about my favorite time of the sporting year! One of them anyways. I always am a big fan of the start of football season, with the exception of the fact that that means I have to go back to school, but there is something extra nice about the start of hockey season to me.

To me, hockey is one of the last pure sports left. Baseball has been forever tarnished by the constant presence of steroids and other performance enhancing drugs, football is just full of primadonnas who whine about money, about coaches, and comment on their twitter during football games. Basketball has a bunch of sissies who are out 4 weeks with a big toe injury, I'm looking at you Shaq. This is why I always like it when hockey comes around. These guys don't whine and moan about contracts. These guys don't let injuries stop them. They play battered and bruised and broken down all season long. I hate the Red Wings, but I remember a game where Brendan Shannahan had an inch chunk of his face cut out when he fell, head first, into someone else's skate. He went in the training room, had it stitched back in, and was back out on his next shift. Or how can you forget Paul Kariya, in the cup finals a few years back, who basically was knocked unconscious, flat, by Scott Stevens, and was out moments later to score a huge goal! You just wouldn't see that in other sports.

So, my fellow sport junkies, I ask you to toast the start of hockey season with me! Don your sleek Reebok jerseys with your favorite player's number, bang on the plexi-glass, yell at the guy in the penalty box, toss back a cold one, and welcome the people who give you your money's worth every night! Hockey season is back, now if Versus, or ESPN, would yank their heads out of their asses and get a freaking deal done so we can watch it. Let the PUCK DROP!!

12-4 on weekend

Not a bad first week. I went 12-4 with my picks, with the MNF game still to be played. But the biggest winners of the weekend were the Detroit Lions!!! Thank goodness! The Lions are off the schnide!! I don't know about everybody else, but I was pretty happy to see the Lions finally get a win!

Yes, this is a homer comment coming up, but how about that Denver defense?! Man, after the last few years, who would have thought we would be seeing this type of performance out of them. Do you realize that they have given up only 16 points total this season? 1 TD, and 3 FG. Sure, they've played against some week teams, but even weak teams are expected to have at least 1 good scoring drive in the game. Gotta hand it to Mike Nolan for revamping this defense. Be very interesting to see how they play over the next few weeks, because they have some serious competition coming up.

Anybody who comes by, tell me your big winners for the week! Love to hear it!

NFL wk. 3! My picks!

Cleveland @ Baltimore: Cleveland has been just atrocious. This year, I think, is going to be a big coming out party for Baltimore. I take the Ravens in this one, running away.

Washington @ Detroit: I tell ya, 2 teams that desperately need a win. My heart tells me to go with Detroit because I just feel bad for them with all the losing, but until they show me that they know how to win as a team, I gotta go with the Redskins.

Jacksonville @ Houston: Wow, Houston's offense sure exploded last week. I see them continuing with that performance at home, and winning over Jacksonville in another shootout.

San Francisco @ Minnesota: Niners are much improved, but I don't think they can withstand the AP attack. Vikings at home.

Atlanta @ New England: This one is a toughy. The Pats have been far from stellar, and the Falcons have been quite impressive. We've seen the formula for beating the Pats though, and I think they keep coming with it. But I'm going to go with the Pats, just barely edging out the Falcons at home.

Kansas City @ Philadelphia: KC is just awful. Cassel helps a little bit, but they are just so far from being competitive. Even Kevin Kolb picks this d apart. Eagles, easily.

Green Bay @ St. Louis: Rams are just awful, still. Pack need to rebound after a messy game against Cinci, and the Rams are the perfect team. Pack takes this one.

NY Giants @ Tampa Bay: Bucs are just playing terribly, and the G-men are just too intense. G-men, in a laugher.

Tennessee @ New York Jets: Jets had a huge win over the Pats last week, but they hyped themselves up so much for that that I think there is just a natural let down after that. I go with the visiting Titans to steal one from the J-E-T-S Jets, Jets, Jets.

New Orleans @ Buffalo: I will never bet against Drew Brees when he is playing like this. The man is a machine. Saints, with Brees throwing 4 more TDs, at least!

Chicago @ Seattle: Seattle is just awful, again. Bears will build a bit of momentum with Cry Baby Cutler at the helm.

Pittsburgh @ Cincinnati: Now this is a tale of 2 teams, and I'm not talking about the Steelers and the Bengals. I'm talking about the Bengals and the Bungles. Which team shows up will decide this game. I'm going to pick Cinci in this one, in a hell of a game!

Denver @ Oakland: Oakland's offense has a hard time against a sad KC team, and the Denver defense is just riding high on confidence. The Broncos follow the same formula as the last couple of weeks. Responsible offense, stifling defense, take advantage of opportunities, no matter how fluky. Broncos win this one by a TD.

Miami @ San Diego: San Diego really needs a win, but Miami has ot to be determined and confident despite their loss to the Colts. I take the fins in this one, in another really good game.

Indianapolis @ Arizona: Which Arizona team shows up? Last week showed why you never bet against Peyton Manning, and I will continue to stick with him. Colts win a highly competitive game.

Carolina @ Dallas: Carolina needs to show some pride here, but they won't show enough against Dallas. Boys win, and then all is right in the world of Tony Romo again. Poor guy.

Feel free to comment on the picks, and list your own! Love to tally them all up at the end of the week. Thanks, and see ya soon!

WELCOME TO THE SIN BIN!!

Good day ladies and gentleman! Welcome to the Sin Bin! This is a place for sports enthusiasts, of all kinds. I plan on posting topics about any and all of my favorite sports. From hockey, to football, to pro-wrestling (yes, pro-wrestling), and any other things that I read and feel like sounding off on (which might not be sports related). I welcome any and all opinions on everything that I write, as long as they are expressed in a respectful manner.

Now I suppose that it is time to make my own allegiances known. I am a life long fan of the Denver Broncos. I was born and raised in Denver, it is still probably my favorite place that I have ever lived, and the Broncos have always been in my blood from when I was a child to today. So I also have a natural dislike of the Raiders, nothing personal, just how I was raised. Hockey is my current favorite sport, but I find it hard to keep up with ever since ESPN stopped broadcasting it. So this could give me a better excuse to follow my Colorado Avalanche. As bad as they have been recently, they are still my boys, and I will stick with them no matter how awfully they play. Baseball used to be huge for me, but I've lost interest in it since high school. But if I have to choose a team, I'd probably stay with my lovable Rockies, though I can't say that I know very much about them at all. I've got an interest in golf as well, and you may occasionally hear some recaps of my rounds.

I'll try and do some weekly posting, and I look forward to the discussions! Bring it on!
